The renowned British weekly The Economist highlighted La Derecha Diario as one of the central actors behind the electoral advance of right-wing candidates in Latin America. In an extensive report published on June 25, the outlet analyzed the regional political shift and placed LDD at the forefront of the new media competing for public discourse against the leftist apparatus.
Behind the phenomenon referred to by The Economist as “trumpification,” lies the loss of hegemony of traditional media and the return of Western values. The right managed to break the monopoly of major media and began to build an independent agenda, with identity, responsiveness, and communicational impact in countries where the left dominated the cultural battle for years.
Javier Negre at the White House
In this context, The Economist stated that new media “also matter” and pointed directly to La Derecha Diario as one of the main protagonists of that ecosystem. The report mentions Javier Negre, the owner of the outlet, highlighting his presence within the White House press group and his closeness to the international conservative movement.
According to the British publication, Negre explained that Donald Trump paved the way for many Latin American candidates who lacked the support of traditional media, by expanding spaces previously reserved for dominant press and giving greater visibility to alternative voices. He also stated that La Derecha Diario helps candidates convey their message without fake news and agenda conditioning.
Fernando Cerimedo being awarded as the Hispanic political consultant of the year
The report also highlighted the role of successful consultant Fernando Cerimedo, partner of La Derecha Diario along with Negre, whom he presented as a key figure in disseminating digital strategies in the region. The Economist recalled that Cerimedo participated in the social media strategy of Javier Milei in 2023, intervened for Tucker Carlson to interview the then Argentine presidential candidate, and later claimed to have worked on campaigns for other right-wing leaders in Latin America.
The article linked the phenomenon to the growth of a regional network of leaders, influencers, strategists, and media seeking to challenge the left for the cultural power it exercised for decades. In this context, it mentions the renowned Argentine influencer Agustín Antonetti as part of a new generation of digital voices amplifying the message of the new independent press.
Agustín Antonetti is a successful influencer and political analyst aligned with Western values
The Argentine case appears as one of the strongest examples. The victory of Javier Milei not only signified an economic and political change but also a demonstration that social media, digital media, and direct communication can break the barrier of traditional press.
Even from a critical and biased reading, The Economist ended up recognizing an undeniable fact: La Derecha Diario is a regional platform with real impact on the regional political discussion. Meanwhile, hegemonic media are losing their narrative monopoly.
