After his good performance in the 2026 World Cup with the Argentine National Team, Facundo Medina could be involved in one of the most notable moves in the European market. Just a few weeks after Olympique de Marseille executed the purchase option for the Argentine defender, Bayer Leverkusen has started negotiations to try to incorporate him for the upcoming season.
According to reports from Germany, officials from the Bundesliga team plan to meet with the authorities of the French club to learn the conditions of a possible transfer and present a formal offer for the 27-year-old defender.
Medina was recently acquired permanently by Marseille
Less than a month ago, Marseille had definitively acquired Medina's transfer for 18 million euros and, after finalizing the deal, extended his contract until June 2030. However, Leverkusen's interest could quickly change the future of the former River and Talleres player.
The German club is looking to strengthen its defense for a season in which it will compete both domestically and in the Europa League. For this reason, it believes that Medina fits the ideal profile due to his international experience and the performance he showed during his first campaign with the Marseille team.
The negotiation is also conditioned by timing. After his participation with the Albiceleste in the World Cup, the defender received three weeks of vacation and is scheduled to return to training on August 12. This period represents an opportunity for the Bayer team to try to advance before the player is available to the Marseille coaching staff again.
If they want to keep the center-back, the German team will have to make an offer exceeding 20 million euros, a figure that the French club considers as a starting point to part ways with a player they have just definitively acquired.
