A survey by Opinaia revealed an unusual fact about the preferences of the left-wing electorate in a potential runoff

Just over a year before the presidential elections of 2027, a national survey by Opinaia recorded a particular finding when analyzing how voters from different political spaces would behave in a potential runoff between President Javier Milei and the ultra-Kirchnerist governor Axel Kicillof.

According to the study, almost one quarter of those who had chosen the Left Front in October 2025 would lean towards the current Argentine president.

The survey conducted in September 2026 presents a runoff scenario in which Milei receives 44% of the voting intention against Kicillof's 39%, while 17% are still undecided.

However, when breaking down these results according to the political space voted in the October 2025 elections, significant differences emerge.

Runoff according to the 2025 vote

Among those who had chosen the Left Front, 64% stated they would vote for Kicillof, while 23% would opt for Milei. Another 12% responded that they do not know.

This data is particularly relevant within the left segment because it implies that, in the event of a direct contest between the President and the Buenos Aires governor, not all of that electorate would shift towards the Peronist candidate.

A proportion close to one in four respondents who had voted for the Left Front would choose Milei in that scenario.

What the left thinks about Milei's continuity

The survey also specifically asked leftist voters about the continuity of the current government. When asked "Who do you think would be better for the country?", 70% responded that Milei should not continue, while 29% believed he should continue, albeit with changes.

The contrast shows that, although a majority of the leftist voters surveyed lean towards Milei's exit from the government, there is at the same time a significant segment that, in the event of a potential runoff between the President and Kicillof, would be willing to vote for the libertarian leader.

Differences among voters of each space

The survey also allowed for observation of how votes from other political spaces would be distributed in a potential runoff.

Among those who had voted for La Libertad Avanza, 86% would choose Milei again, while 6% would opt for Kicillof and 8% are still undecided.

In the case of Fuerza Patria, 85% would lean towards Kicillof, compared to 7% who would choose Milei and 8% who have no definition.

Voters from Provincias Unidas show a more divided distribution: 47% would support Milei, 31% would support Kicillof, and 22% remain undecided.

The Left Front, meanwhile, shows a 41-point difference between those who would choose the governor and those who would lean towards the President, although the 23% who would opt for Milei is one of the highlighted data points from the breakdown.

In the overall measurement, moreover, La Libertad Avanza gathers 33% of preferences when the inquiry is made by political spaces, compared to 29% for Peronism. The Left Front appears with 6%.

The Opinaia survey was conducted between September 4 and 9, 2026, through an online survey of its own panel in Argentina. It included 1,000 national cases from the general public, with a representative sample by quotas of sex, age, and area of residence, and a reported sampling error of ±3 percentage points.
