Months after winning their second consecutive Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain celebrates again. In a fairly even match, the French club defeated Aston Villa 2-1 and became two-time champions of the European Super Cup

The match would start with a Parisian team controlling the game and generating long sequences of passes that ended without creating really clear goal-scoring situations, and an English team that had isolated but not very dangerous chances, the most notable being a long-range attempt by Boubacar Kamara in the 13th minute that went wide.

After several minutes without much excitement, Luis Enrique's team would break the mold in the 20th minute thanks to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who, after receiving the ball from Desiré Doué, with a powerful right-footed shot would beat goalkeeper Marco Bizot from inside the area to make it 1-0.

With the momentum from the goal, PSG would quickly try to extend the lead, but they would slow down to what was seen at the beginning of the match. On the other hand, facing the adversity of the score, Unai Emery's team would have a bit more protagonism in search of the equalizer, creating some promising chances. The most notable would come from 17-year-old Brian Madjo, who, despite being a constant threat to his opponent, would lack effectiveness in finishing the plays.

When it seemed that there would be no more changes in the score before halftime, towards the end of the first half, the Birmingham team would equalize. In the 45th minute, John McGinn would cross for João Gomes, however, the ball would go past him and fall to Madjo, who would finally adjust his aim and make it 1-1.

In the second half, the Villains would maintain their level and put PSG under pressure. Among their attacking advances, in the 50th minute, McGinn would try a shot from outside the area, forcing goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who would deflect the ball with a good save.

After this intervention from the Russian, the French team would take charge and regain control of the match, even taking the lead again. In the 60th minute, substitute Ousmane Dembélé would send a beautiful long pass to Doué, who would win the one-on-one against Bizot to make it 2-1. Although initially the goal would be disallowed for offside, a quick VAR review would overturn the decision and validate it.

From this moment on, the match would gradually fade, having some opportunities for both sides, but without anything decisive enough to change the story: Paris Saint-Germain champions of the European Super Cup.

With this title, PSG became two-time champions of the tournament (last year they won against Tottenham 4-3 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in regulation time) and added their seventh international star and the No. 61 in their history. Meanwhile, Luís Enrique achieved his third Super Cup, becoming the third most decorated coach in the competition behind Carlo Ancelotti (5) and Pep Guardiola (4), and his 13th trophy with the Parisian team since his arrival in mid-2023.
