The initiative includes the installation of 22 polymer injection plants, the drilling of 100 new wells, and the intervention of another 600 producing wells. The goal is to increase oil and conventional gas production through tertiary recovery techniques.
Marcos Bulgheroni, Group CEO of Pan American Energy, stated that “we are focused on seeking new investment horizons in Cerro Dragón that complement the work we are doing to provide greater sustainability to the basin”. He also emphasized that the project's entry into the RIGI will allow for the advancement of new techniques and sustain activity.
A project from TotalEnergies for USD 5 billion under the RIGI to expand oil production in San Roque, Neuquén was also announced, with a total outlay reaching 10 billion dollars.
The announcement was made by the company's CEO, Patrick Pouyanné, who linked the initiative to the current conditions for investing in the country.
“Can we invest in Argentina? Yes, we can,” Pouyanné stated. The executive also maintained that Milei's libertarian management “has created a positive momentum to invest in Argentina”.
TotalEnergies also reported that it is analyzing investments between USD 4 billion and USD 5 billion to increase its natural gas production in Aguada Pichana. The company aims to raise it from the current 14 million cubic meters to 16 million.
These announcements are complemented by the so-called Alberdi Project, which TotalEnergies is developing in Tierra del Fuego and involves an investment of up to USD 1.5 billion. The project plans for three to five subsea wells to develop the offshore area.
