While finalizing the arrival of Rodolfo Arruabarrena as the new coach, Boca is also making progress in the transfer market. One of the positions that the management considers a priority is the goalkeeper, especially after the ligament injury of Agustín Marchesín, and they have already started negotiations for one of the names that most attract Juan Román Riquelme.

With the confirmed absence of the former Lanús player at least until the end of the year, the Vasco currently has Leandro Brey and Javier García as the main alternatives, which is why the management aims to add competition in a position considered key to face a second half of the season with triple competition: Torneo Clausura, Copa Argentina, and Copa Sudamericana.

In this context, according to journalist Germán García Grova, the xeneize president contacted Álvaro Montero to express the club's interest and let him know that he is among the main targets for this transfer market. The 31-year-old Colombian goalkeeper is currently focused with his national team to compete in the 2026 World Cup, so any decision about his future will depend on his participation in the tournament. However, the club from La Ribera has already taken the first step and is keeping the goalkeeper under observation.

Beyond simple interest, the negotiation does not appear to be straightforward. Montero is currently playing for Vélez on loan until December of this year, although his rights belong to Millonarios. The club from Liniers has already informed the Colombian institution that they will exercise the purchase option set at 1.8 million dollars and will seek to retain him with a long-term contract.

This situation opens up different alternatives. If Vélez finalizes the purchase, Boca would have to negotiate directly with the Fortín to try to secure the goalkeeper. On the other hand, if the player does not accept the offered conditions and returns to Millonarios, the club from La Ribera could initiate talks with the Colombian entity to acquire his rights.

While preparing to compete for a spot in the Colombian goal during the World Cup, Montero's future remains open, although now with an interested party like Boca looking ahead to the second semester.

Montero's numbers at Vélez

Since his arrival at the Fortín in mid-last year, the native of El Molino has played 1,681 minutes, spread over 19 matches, of which in 14 he kept a clean sheet and in the rest conceded 8 goals. Additionally, he received a yellow card once.
