The third day of the oral trial against former Córdoba legislator Oscar González introduced a new element that the defense considers key for the reconstruction of the Altas Cumbres tragedy: a series of videos captured by security cameras minutes before the fatal impact that occurred on October 29, 2022.
According to lawyer Miguel Ortiz Pellegrini, these images strengthen the hypothesis that the Renault Sandero in which Alejandra Bengoa was traveling made an improper overtaking maneuver moments before the crash.
During the hearing, footage obtained from cameras installed in a business located in the Cañada Larga area, a few kilometers from the site of the incident, was shown. The recordings show a Mercedes Benz 14000 truck passing, followed by the red Sandero and then a Fiat Siena.
For the defense, the sequence is consistent with the version that Bengoa's vehicle attempted to overtake the truck in a section with double yellow lines, a maneuver that they argue was decisive in the mechanics of the accident.
Ortiz Pellegrini clarified that the cameras do not directly record the alleged overtaking, but stated that the images gain relevance when analyzed alongside other evidence included in the case file. Among them, he mentioned the statements of the truck driver and the driver of the Fiat Siena, who, according to the defense strategy, placed that maneuver just seconds before the impact.
For the lawyer, the body of evidence allows for reconstructing the path of the vehicles and supports the version he has maintained since the beginning of the process.
The Investigation of the González Case
The defense also emphasized that these audiovisual records have been part of the investigation since November 2022 and were presented by the prosecution during the oral debate.
In Ortiz Pellegrini's view, the images constitute objective evidence that must be evaluated alongside the rest of the technical and testimonial evidence to determine responsibilities in the incident, even though the exact moment of the collision was not recorded by any camera.
The stance of the former legislator's lawyers differs from the accusatory theory, which claims that González invaded the opposite lane with his BMW and caused the head-on collision that resulted in the death of Alexa Heidy Pereyra and left Alejandra Bengoa and Marina Serena seriously injured.
The judicial debate focuses precisely on establishing the sequence leading up to the impact and the degree of influence that each driver's behavior may have had.
The trial will continue next week with new testimonial statements, including that of the truck driver who was ahead of the Sandero and other witnesses considered relevant to reconstruct the minutes leading up to the incident. It is expected that these testimonies will allow for a deeper analysis of the mechanics of the crash and provide new elements for the court to determine the criminal responsibilities in one of the most significant judicial cases in the province of Córdoba.
