Cencosud is moving forward with its investment of over US$60 million to transform and expand Unicenter, located in the Buenos Aires town of Martínez, and confirmed one of the main services that will be incorporated into the complex: a medical center from Swiss Medical with the capacity to serve more than 20,000 patients per month.
The company announced the expansion project in June, which includes the construction of 20,054 additional square meters, of which about 16,000 will be leasable space. Now, through an agreement between Cencosud and Swiss Medical, the details of the new health space have been defined.
The new spaces would be available starting in October 2027
The medical center will have approximately 1,300 square meters and is set to begin operations in the first half of 2027. It will offer outpatient care, a laboratory, imaging diagnostics, and consulting rooms prepared to provide more than 40 medical specialties.
Among its services, there will be magnetic resonance imaging, X-rays, mammograms, and ultrasounds, as well as specialties such as internal medicine, pediatrics, dentistry, gynecology, urology, cardiology, ophthalmology, and otorhinolaryngology.
Unlike what was initially proposed, the new center will not include its own vaccination facility. However, the Vaccination store currently located on the third floor of the shopping center will continue to operate.
The incorporation of Swiss Medical is part of a much broader transformation of the complex. Unicenter will add 85 stores to the 282 it currently has, in addition to new stands, decks, gastronomic and sports proposals, improvements in accessibility, vehicular circulation, and green spaces.
The expansion responds, as explained by the company itself, to the demand from national and international brands interested in opening larger stores and flagship stores within the shopping center. In recent months, brands such as Boss, Armani, Calvin Klein, Victoria’s Secret, Skechers, Miniso, and Indian have entered.
The works began in June and will be developed in stages to maintain the usual operation of the shopping center. The general opening of the new spaces is projected for October 2027, once the expansion process is completed.
Unicenter adds 85 stores and a medical center
The project will also have a direct impact on employment. Cencosud estimates that more than 600 jobs will be created between the construction phase and the subsequent operation of the new stores and services.
This investment thus deepens the group's long-term commitment to the Argentine market and aims to turn Unicenter into a complex that combines commerce, gastronomy, entertainment, sports, and now also medical care.
