“Shut up the cu…”: what happened in the exchange between Coudet and Borré during the match against Independiente Santa Fe

Eduardo Coudet starred in one of the particular moments of the draw between River and Independiente Santa Fe. The team led by the Argentine coach drew 0-0 in Bogotá, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana, in a match that had as one of its focal points the exchange between the coach and Rafael Santos Borré.

Coudet had already shared a squad with the Colombian forward during his time at Inter de Porto Alegre, but this time the relationship was exposed during the match by a strong reprimand from the bench.

At one point in the match, the River coach called out to Borré about his position on the field and shouted several instructions for him to change his location.

“¡Rafa! ¡Rafa! ¡Dale! ¡Dale! Go to the inside part. ¡Get it inside! ¡Damn it! ¡Hey, shut your c…! ¡Shut your c…, damn it!”, was heard from the coach on the substitutes' bench.

The episode did not end there. During one of the hydration breaks, Coudet personally approached the forward and they had a conversation. The images showed the coach speaking energetically with the player while trying to convey new tactical instructions.

The situation drew attention due to the intensity of the exchange, although from the team's environment it was not interpreted as a major conflict between the two.

What Coudet said about his discussion with Borré

After the draw against Independiente Santa Fe, Coudet was asked in a press conference about the moment he had with the Colombian forward.

The coach downplayed the incident and stated that these types of situations are part of the usual dynamics between a coach and his players during a match.

“With players, sometimes you clash, but I don’t give it importance. We have a pretty good level of human interaction,” explained the River coach.
