The governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, received a delegation from NMDC Limited, the largest mining company in India and one of the most important state-owned companies in Asia, interested in learning about the investment opportunities offered by the province in the sectors of mining and energy.

During the meeting, provincial authorities presented the development of Malargüe Western Mining District (MDMO), the Mendoza energy strategy, and the policies implemented to provide legal security and predictability to investors.

Mendoza showcased its mining and energy potential

The meeting allowed NMDC representatives to learn about Mendoza's geological potential and the main projects promoted by the provincial government.

One of the central themes was the Malargüe Western Mining District, an area of approximately 20,000 square kilometers and 703,000 hectares with significant potential for the exploration of copper and other strategic minerals linked to the energy transition.

The company also received information about other initiatives related to energy development and the utilization of natural resources that are part of the province's economic growth plan.

Cornejo emphasized clear rules to attract investments

During the meeting, Cornejo stated that Mendoza is working to develop modern mining, with environmental controls and favorable conditions to attract long-term investments.

"We are doing very important work to develop mining with all the necessary environmental care, but also to develop an economic activity that the province did not have and that has enormous potential," he said.

The governor also highlighted the importance of offering predictability to companies interested in investing.

"We want to move as quickly as possible. We know that the activity will grow, and we must be prepared. We have a lot of information to provide them so they can make decisions," he noted.

Additionally, he emphasized that Mendoza has streamlined procedures for project approval and that those receiving legislative endorsement have greater legal security against potential government changes.

The Undersecretary of Energy and Mining, Manuel Sánchez Bandini, explained that Mendoza has an energy matrix with a growing participation of renewable sources, historically strengthened by hydroelectric generation and expanded in recent years through new energy projects.

According to him, this characteristic represents a competitive advantage for the production of critical minerals such as copper.

"Copper produced with lower carbon impact energy has greater competitiveness and profitability in international markets," he stated.

He also highlighted the potential that Mendoza has in both conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons to support the growth of the mining sector.

NMDC Limited is the largest producer of iron ore in India, with an annual production exceeding 53 million tons.

The company also develops projects related to the production of copper, diamonds, tungsten, phosphates, limestone, magnesite, and other strategic minerals for the global industry.

With more than 5,000 employees and highly mechanized operations, the company has established itself as one of the main players in international mining and a key supplier of essential minerals for the energy transition.

Mendoza consolidates its appeal for international investments

The visit of NMDC Limited adds to the growing interest that large international mining companies have shown in Mendoza, driven by the province's geological potential, institutional stability, and the official strategy to promote investments in mining, energy, and infrastructure.

The provincial government seeks to consolidate this process through clear rules, long-term planning, and conditions that allow for the transformation of natural resources into new opportunities for economic development and job creation.
