A new case of police violence in Brazil was captured on camera at the Mineirão stadium

The incidents between Cruzeiro and Flamengo marked the lead-up to the match for the round of 16 of the 2026 Copa Libertadores. The situation occurred in the vicinity of the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte during the entry of visiting fans.

Tension escalated minutes before the start of the match when crowds were reported at the access points designated for Flamengo supporters. A large group of fans attempted to advance over the security barriers, causing panic and moments of uncertainty among those waiting to enter the stadium.

In response to this situation, officers from the Military Police of Minas Gerais intervened to contain the fans. The operation included charges with batons and the use of pepper spray to disperse the supporters.

The intervention also affected individuals with valid tickets who were caught in the crowd concentration. Images of the incidents quickly began to circulate, showing the tense atmosphere that prevailed around the Mineirão.

At least one fan was detained

According to information released by Globo Esporte, at least one supporter was apprehended during the disturbances. The incident occurred after a sector identified with the most radical faction of Flamengo attempted to breach the barriers set up to regulate entry.

According to the version of the authorities in charge of the operation, the police intervention aimed to prevent a mass and unauthorized entry into the upper stands of the stadium.
