Two soldiers were injured and four Moroccans were arrested after a new aggression recorded during the early hours of Friday to Saturday in Ceuta, where a large group allegedly threw stones at personnel deployed near the Foso Real.

The attack occurred near a Shell gas station and in front of El Chorrillo beach, in an area where the soldiers were conducting surveillance duties. According to police sources cited by Spanish media, the personnel began to receive stone throws from a large group and alerted a patrol from the Rural Security Group (GRS) of the Civil Guard that was nearby.

The intervention of the agents initially allowed the arrest of three of the aggressors. However, a fourth individual managed to escape towards the beach. The soldiers then initiated a pursuit and managed to catch him on the sand, where he was held until the arrival of the Civil Guard agents.

Finally, four people were arrested and transferred to police facilities for the instruction of the corresponding proceedings. Authorities will now have to determine the individual responsibility of the detainees and the exact circumstances surrounding the attack.

Two soldiers were injured during the intervention. One of the personnel suffered minor injuries after falling while trying to move away from the area during the stone throwing. The second injured was a sergeant, who suffered an elbow injury and a bleeding wound after falling to the ground during a struggle with one of the individuals he was trying to subdue.

The new episode of violence occurs just a day after another aggression against soldiers recorded in Benzú and increases concerns about the safety of personnel deployed at various points in Ceuta.

In the previous incident, a group of between 30 and 40 migrants allegedly surrounded a military vehicle in which four personnel were present and began throwing large stones at the car. The soldiers were injured and had to abandon the vehicle to seek safety.

After that attack, twelve people were arrested and placed at the disposal of the judiciary. Eleven acknowledged their participation in the events and accepted a two-year prison sentence, which was replaced by their expulsion to Morocco and a five-year ban on returning to Spain. The twelfth detainee denied participating in the aggression and remains in provisional detention.

The succession of both attacks in just a few days has generated new criticism regarding the security situation in Ceuta and has increased demands to reinforce surveillance in areas where groups of migrants are concentrated. The protection of soldiers and security agents has become one of the main concerns after the recent episodes of violence.

The early hours of Saturday were also marked by another violent incident, although in this case between two migrants. The fight took place in the Miramar neighborhood, near the border with Morocco.

According to police and neighborhood sources, the confrontation began with a discussion between two migrants who had arrived in Ceuta on July 30. During the fight, one of them allegedly assaulted the other, causing him to fall down a slope and become unconscious.

Neighbors alerted emergency services after noticing that the man had a significant head injury. An ambulance took him to the University Hospital of Ceuta, where he remained hospitalized.

The alleged aggressor, also of Moroccan nationality, was arrested by the National Police and is expected to be brought before the judiciary for an alleged crime of assault.

Residents of Miramar have also reported that confrontations between migrants are frequent in the area. According to their testimonies, some of these disputes would be related to the distribution of food and the consumption of alcohol or other substances.

The recent events once again put pressure on the authorities of Ceuta, who face the challenge of containing new episodes of violence, protecting the personnel deployed in the city, and managing a migratory situation that has generated increasing tensions between security forces, residents, and groups of migrants.

The cases are now in the hands of judicial authorities, who will have to determine the corresponding responsibilities for the attacks against the soldiers and for the other incidents recorded during the weekend.
