Franco Colapinto continues to receive recognition for his outstanding performance at the Belgian Grand Prix. This time, fans of Formula 1 chose his impressive double overtake on Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly as the best maneuver of the month in the official voting organized by the category.
The action by the Alpine driver received 56% of the votes and won by a wide margin over the other nominated maneuvers. The result was announced this Wednesday, once the poll was completed, confirming the impact the maneuver had among fans of the sport.
The overtake occurred in a single action, when Colapinto left Lawson and his teammate, Pierre Gasly, behind. During the official broadcast, the maneuver could barely be seen in a reduced window, but the footage captured by the onboard camera later went viral, allowing for a closer look at one of the standout actions of the season.
The second place in the voting went to Max Verstappen, thanks to his overtake on Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which garnered 37% of the preferences. Behind him were Lawson, for a maneuver on Oscar Piastri, and Arvid Lindblad, for an overtake on Hamilton himself, both with 3% of the votes. The fifth position also went to Verstappen, for an overtake on his teammate Isack Hadjar at Silverstone, which received only 1%.
The recognition holds special significance for the Argentine, as this is the second time he has received this award since joining Formula 1. The first was in November 2024 during the United States Grand Prix in Austin, when a maneuver on Fernando Alonso, while competing for Williams, was also chosen as the best overtake of the month and later as the best of the year.
The award comes at a great time for Colapinto, who is having his best season in the category and has received praise for his performance during the first half of the championship. Now, he will take advantage of the Formula 1 summer break before returning to action at the Dutch Grand Prix.
When Colapinto Returns to Race
After the race on Hungarian soil, Formula 1 will take a break for the summer holidays. In this regard, the category will return in one month with the Dutch Grand Prix. Action at the Zandvoort circuit will kick off on Friday, August 21 with a single practice session and the Sprint qualifying, and will conclude on Sunday, August 23 with the main race.
In his only appearance on Dutch territory driving in the top category, Colapinto narrowly missed out on points with an 11th place finish.
