Gerónimo Rulli was introduced as the new signing for Manchester City: "I came to defend the best club in the world"

Gerónimo Rulli is now officially a player of the Manchester City. This Wednesday, the 34-year-old Argentine goalkeeper was presented by the English club after signing a two-season contract, until mid-2028, following his time at Olympique de Marseille.

The English team paid 3.5 million euros to acquire the goalkeeper's rights, who had been called up to the Argentine National Team for the 2026 World Cup. His arrival at City also marks his return to an institution where he had previously been during the 2016/17 season, although during that time he did not play any matches with the first team. With this new opportunity at the Citizens, the former Estudiantes player will compete for a spot with Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, the main option in goal, and English Marcus Bettinelli, as well as young James Trafford.

Rulli did not hide his enthusiasm for the new challenge and was emphatic when referring to his signing: "I came to defend the best club in the world". In his presentation on the club's official site, he also explained why he decided to accept the offer. "This is an incredible opportunity for me and I had to take it. When the chance to join Manchester City arises, you have to go for it", he expressed.

The goalkeeper also highlighted the level of demand he will find in his new team. "Everyone knows how impressive this club is. The success of City over time has been remarkable. Everyone I have spoken to about City has told me that I had to join them because it is a club with incredibly high standards", he stated.

His goal, as he explained, will be to adapt quickly to the team's dynamics. "Every professional wants to be in a high-performance environment and I am eager to start because I know I will improve and learn, which is always my main priority. My job now is to train hard, get to know the players and the coaching staff, and do everything possible to reach my best level", he affirmed.

Hugo Viana, the club's sporting director, particularly emphasized the Argentine's willingness during negotiations. "During our conversations, I was very impressed; he has a great desire to join us. It is clear that we are signing a brilliant professional, in addition to a top-class goalkeeper", he stated.

With his arrival, Rulli will become one of the three Argentine goalkeepers playing in the Premier League. He will share this group with Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez of Aston Villa, and Franco Ravizzoli of Leicester, in a new phase of his extensive international career.

Rulli's numbers at Olympique de Marseille

In his two years with the French institution, the player from La Plata played 6,570 minutes, spread over 73 matches, of which he was unbeaten in 14, while in the rest he conceded 99 goals.
