The entertainment industry giant Rockstar Games is under siege from cybercrime activities. This incident comes just days before the prestigious company officially releases its highly anticipated preview 'An Extended Look' through the streaming platform Netflix on August 27, based on the upcoming launch of the video game, Grand Theft Auto VI.
The uproar caused by the illegal leak not only represents a severe technical security challenge but has also triggered an immediate direct economic harm reflected in a significant drop in the shares of its parent company, Take-Two, due to investors' justified fears of future revelations of confidential information.

Behind this serious financial sabotage is a user self-styled as Cyber League (also identified on networks and forums as Cyberleek). The extortionist has attempted to legitimize their criminal behavior by presenting it as a supposed "protest" in defense of consumers, hiding behind their disagreement with the commercial decision to release the video game exclusively in digital format.
In their manifesto, collected by the specialized media PC Gamer, the hacker maintains a collectivist discourse: "They distribute unfinished games and call them services. They block content on disks and call it DLC. They remove games and keep the money. Every year, anti-consumerism strengthens, and every year players get less for what they pay".
However, technical and financial analyses strongly refute any idealistic motivation in their actions. The supposed ideological cause of Cyber League has been unmasked as a clear attempt at economic extortion, as the attacker demands direct payments in exchange for not publishing key moments of the video game's story.

Furthermore, the illegal publications contain QR codes, links to websites, and requests for financial contributions aimed at promoting their own cryptocurrency, confirming an undeniable profit-driven background behind these illegal actions. This concerning practice, in addition to undermining the legal security of capital investments in the software industry, poses a security risk to unsuspecting users who access these unregulated payment links.
