After the tough elimination in the Copa Argentina, El Rojo fired its coach and is already analyzing possible successors to take charge of the first team
The elimination of Independiente from the Copa Argentina caused a new movement on the bench. The 4-0 thrashing against Atlético Tucumán in the round of 16 sealed the fate of Gustavo Quinteros, who is no longer the coach of the Rojo and forced the management to accelerate the search for a replacement.
Among the first names that emerged are Rubén Darío Insúa and Omar De Felippe, two coaches who are currently without a club and who also have a prior connection with Independiente.
Insúa was a player for the Rojo between 1988 and 1990, during which he won a local championship. His last job as a coach was at Barracas Central, where he was from September 2024 to June 2026. There, he managed 74 matches, with a record of 22 wins, 29 draws, and 23 losses. Additionally, he managed to qualify the Guapo for the first time for an international competition by securing a spot in the Copa Sudamericana 2026.

On the other hand, De Felippe also had a connection with Independiente, although this was from the bench. As a coach, he led the Avellaneda team during the season when the club played in the Primera Nacional and managed to return it to Primera División in 2014. In that cycle, he achieved 19 wins, 14 draws, and 7 losses in 40 matches managed.
His last role as a coach was at Central Córdoba, where he managed 84 matches between August 2023 and December 2025. There he achieved 32 victories, 27 draws, and 25 losses, in addition to winning the Copa Argentina 2024 (defeating Quinteros' Vélez in the final), the first national title in the history of the Santiago team, which also gave him the opportunity to compete in their first continental tournament: the Copa Libertadores 2025 (he would later play in that year's Sudamericana after finishing third in his group).
De Felippe has already been the coach of Independiente and his last club was Central Córdoba, where he won a Copa Argentina
With the Torneo Clausura as the only front left, Independiente must quickly resolve who will be in charge of the squad. In the meantime, Hugo Tocalli will take charge of the training sessions and Carlos Matheu, accompanied by Eduardo Tuzzio, will assume temporarily to visit Lanús next Monday for the fifth round of the championship.
