The President congratulated Fujimori after his victory over the communist Roberto Sánchez in Peru

President Javier Milei congratulated Keiko Fujimori this Sunday for her victory in the presidential runoff in Peru and celebrated the new electoral blow against the regional left. The Fuerza Popular candidate defeated the communist Roberto Sánchez and will govern the country from 2026 to 2031.

Through his account on X (formerly Twitter), Milei published a strong message titled “Peru exits socialism,” in which he highlighted Fujimori's triumph as part of a broader political change in Latin America. “I congratulate @KeikoFujimori on her historic victory in Peru. The Peruvian people join Colombia and have sent a clear message: the region wants to return to the path of freedom and security,” he stated.

The Argentine president also directly targeted the project represented by Sánchez, the candidate of Juntos por el Perú and political heir of the space that defended the statist and radicalized agenda linked to castillismo. “The Peruvians rejected the communist debacle proposed by Roberto Sánchez and said never again to totalitarian socialism,” Milei added.

Milei's reaction came after the National Office of Electoral Processes confirmed the counting of 100% of the ballots. According to the final results, Fujimori obtained 50.135% of valid votes, with 9,223,396 ballots, while Sánchez reached 49.865%, with 9,173,755 votes. The final difference was just 49,641 votes, in one of the closest elections in recent Peruvian history.

The vote abroad proved decisive in consolidating the victory of Fuerza Popular. While Sánchez achieved a minimal advantage within Peruvian territory, Fujimori secured a strong difference among Peruvians residing outside the country, where she obtained 63.208% of the votes compared to 36.792% for her rival.

The advance of the right in the region

Milei's celebration is also connected to the speech he gave minutes earlier at the Latin America Conference of the Foundation Allies of Israel, where he reiterated the advance of a new wave of the right in the continent. He stated that “today we are seeing a awakening in the region, where the left continues to retreat” and emphasized: “They lost in Chile, last week in Colombia, they have already lost in Peru, and we hope they lose in Brazil in October.”

With Fujimori's victory, Milei finds a new ideological ally in the region and reinforces his thesis that Latin America is undergoing a political shift against socialism, statism, and insecurity. Peru thus joins the continental reordering that the Argentine President has been celebrating as a historic opportunity to rebuild cooperation among governments that defend freedom, order, and market economy.
