The assumption of Abelardo de la Espriella as president of Colombia brought together this Friday in Cali one of the largest international delegations in recent years. Heads of state, government representatives, and high authorities from different continents participated in the inauguration ceremony, demonstrating diplomatic support for the beginning of the new presidential term.

Among the main attendees, King Felipe VI of Spain stood out, who led the Spanish representation during the ceremony.

Also participating were the president of Argentina, Javier Milei; the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa; the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña; the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino; the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; the president of Costa Rica, Laura Fernández; the president of Honduras, Nasry Asfura; and the president of Chile, José Antonio Kast.

In addition to the Latin American leaders, official delegations from the United States, Israel, Brazil, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, South Korea, and Mexico, among other countries, attended. The White House confirmed the sending of a presidential mission to represent the U.S. government, although Secretary of State Marco Rubio ultimately did not join the delegation.

The presence of numerous international leaders allowed the new president to maintain an intense diplomatic agenda alongside the ceremony. De la Espriella planned to hold bilateral meetings with several heads of state to discuss issues related to security, economic cooperation, trade, and investments, in addition to strengthening political relations with various governments in the region and Europe.

The ceremony was also marked by some absences. Outgoing president Gustavo Petro did not participate in the event and had previously denounced an alleged electoral fraud, while former presidents Juan Manuel Santos and Ernesto Samper were also not invited. In contrast, former presidents Álvaro Uribe, Iván Duque, Andrés Pastrana, and César Gaviria did attend, reflecting the significant political change that occurred after the presidential elections.

The broad participation of heads of state and international representatives was interpreted as diplomatic support for the new Colombian government and allowed for the inauguration of a new phase in the country's foreign policy.

With an agenda focused on security, economic growth, and strengthening strategic alliances, the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella begins its term with a strong display of international relations and intense diplomatic activity from its first day in office.
