The journalist assured that the Minister of Security of Buenos Aires communicated with his boss to question the information in a report broadcast on A24
The journalist questioned why the provincial official contacted one of the owners of the channel to express his displeasure, instead of reaching out to him directly or responding publicly to the information presented.
“Yesterday, after talking about this, I made a reference to the government of the Province of Buenos Aires. I insist: they are never personal references because I do not know the people I am referring to,” Novaresio began.
In that sense, he clarified that his observations are aimed at the role played by the members of Axel Kicillof's government. “When I talk about the officials, I talk about functional responsibility,” he stated.
The response from Luis Novaresio after Javier Alonso's call
During his program, Novaresio explained that he had publicly invited Alonso to review the statistics shared and to contact the production to provide his version. However, as he recounted, the minister chose to call Daniel Vila.
“I invited Minister Alonso to take the figures we had shared on this program, about how La Matanza surpassed Rosario, and to call. Minister Alonso called my boss to complain, not me,” he revealed.
Luis Novaresio confronted the minister
The host emphasized that the official had the right to question the information, but considered the chosen method inappropriate. “If the minister believes that I am wrong or that someone from this program is wrong, he can call me. He can also deny me in another media outlet, there is no problem,” he affirmed.
“Now, there is no need to call the owners of the company for that,” Novaresio added, interpreting the communication as an attempt at pressure from the provincial official.
The source of the security figures shared on A24
In another part of his response, Novaresio defended the information presented on the program and assured that the numbers did not come from his own elaboration, but from public records.
“The figures we publish I do not invent. They are the official figures from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Province of Buenos Aires,” he explained.
According to the journalist, the data corresponds to the Preliminary Criminal Investigations (IPP) initiated in the various judicial departments of Buenos Aires for completed homicides and attempted homicides.
“If you disagree with those figures, you should talk to the prosecutor,” Novaresio suggested while addressing the provincial authorities.
Before concluding his statement, the host also demanded that the Ministry of Security communicate with those affected by insecurity and provide them with legal, psychological, and emotional assistance. For that, he offered Alonso a contact related to one of the cases addressed by the program.
