A new large-scale private investment in renewable energy is advancing in Mendoza. The company Genneia S.A. plans to build the Mendoza Sur Solar Park in San Rafael, a photovoltaic complex with an installed capacity of 404 MW that, if realized, would become the largest in the province and the country.

The project has gone through a new administrative stage with the Public Hearing convened by the Ministry of Energy and Environment of Mendoza, as part of the environmental assessment procedure necessary to move forward with the development.

The private initiative includes the installation of 919,072 bifacial solar modules, as well as 1,492 inverters, 52 transformation centers, and 16,412 solar trackers. The complex will occupy approximately 1,130 hectares and will be located about 2.5 kilometers north of Villa 25 de Mayo, in the San Rafael department.

With a projected capacity of 404 MW, Mendoza Sur would surpass the El Quemado Solar Park, located in Las Heras, which has a capacity of 305 MW, and would lead the country's large-scale photovoltaic developments.

Currently, Mendoza has 774.4 MW of installed capacity in operational solar parks. The addition of the new project would raise that volume to approximately 1,178.4 MW, allowing it to exceed the provincial goal of reaching 1,000 MW of installed solar power by 2030 ahead of schedule.

“This project would become the largest solar park in Mendoza and the largest scale project planned so far in the country,” highlighted the provincial Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre.

The official also emphasized the role of private investments in the province's energy expansion. “We continue to create the conditions for the private sector to invest, develop large-scale initiatives, and find predictability and opportunities in the province,” she stated.

Genneia plans to develop the project in approximately 24 months, while its operation is projected for 2029. The environmental procedure has already included the preparation of a Technical Opinion by the National University of Cuyo Foundation, the company's responses to the received observations, and various sectoral opinions.

After the public hearing, interested parties will also be able to submit written considerations for five business days, which will subsequently be incorporated and evaluated within the administrative file.

If the pending stages are surpassed, Mendoza Sur will represent a new leap for renewable generation in Argentina and will strengthen Mendoza's positioning as one of the main solar hubs in the country, driven by private capital and an unprecedented scale project for the national photovoltaic sector.
