President Javier Milei defended the economic direction of his administration and reiterated the reduction of the size of the State as one of the central pillars of his government program. During an interview with Esteban Trebucq, the president stated that the decline in public sector salaries is a deliberate decision to lessen the State's weight on the economy and promote the growth of the private sector.

"The decline in public sector salaries is a sought-after consequence of our model," Milei affirmed during an interview with journalist Esteban Trebucq. He explained that the goal is for the burden of the adjustment to fall on the state structure and not on the productive sector.

Milei championed the chainsaw and fiscal balance

The President highlighted that since the beginning of his administration, 75,000 employees of the national public administration have been laid off, a measure that, he claimed, allowed for a 30% reduction in real terms of public spending.

For Milei, this process represents an unprecedented event in Argentine economic history and was key to achieving fiscal balance in record time. The president emphasized that the underlying goal is to build a more efficient and less costly State so that the private sector can generate more jobs and better wages.

In this regard, he asserted that the recovery of the economy is already beginning to reflect in the incomes of private sector workers. "The real salary of the private sector is on par with or above inflation," he stated. Additionally, he claimed that in the informal sector, incomes have grown even more rapidly in recent months.

"The adjustment is paid by the State"

Milei insisted that the role of the Government is to organize the macroeconomy and guarantee clear rules for investment and production.

"I have to take care of the fiscal accounts, give you freedom, deregulate you, and open up the economy," explained the head of State, who rejected any direct government intervention in the microeconomy.

The president maintained that interventionist policies have led to corruption and economic distortions for decades. For this reason, he stated that his administration will continue to advance the elimination of regulations and the reduction of the State's weight on private activity.

However, he clarified that the goal is not to harm state workers, but to build a system where the most efficient public employees can receive better remuneration within a much smaller and sustainable State.

Milei praised Patricia Bullrich and spoke about the political future

During the interview, the President also referred to the political landscape for the coming years and praised Patricia Bullrich, whom he defined as one of the most important leaders of the ruling party.

"She is not a soldier of the cause, she is a general of the cause," Milei stated while highlighting the commitment and loyalty of the current leader of La Libertad Avanza in the Senate.

The president assured that Bullrich will have a relevant place in the future of the space and stated that the electoral definitions for 2027 will be resolved by the political table made up of Karina Milei, Santiago Caputo, and the Menem brothers.

The Government aims to deepen reforms

The President's statements come in a context where the Government seeks to consolidate the structural reforms initiated since December 2023. The libertarian administration maintains that fiscal balance, reduction of public spending, and economic deregulation constitute the foundations for achieving sustained growth in investment, employment, and wages in the private sector.

From Casa Rosada, they insist that the adjustment will continue to focus on the State, with the aim of reducing the pressure on taxpayers and consolidating an economic model based on the balance of public accounts and the expansion of private activity.
