The president Javier Milei confirmed that he will personally work to ensure that Formula 1 returns to Argentina after nearly three decades and announced that he will hold meetings with officials from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) during the American Congress to be held in Buenos Aires.
“We are going to work to bring Formula 1 back to Argentina,” the president stated during an interview with Radio Mitre, where he revealed that he will take advantage of the international meeting to promote the efforts.
“I will present and have meetings with the FIA people. We will try to do everything possible to convince them that the possibility of seeing Colapinto here becomes a reality,” Milei added.
The President will participate next Monday, August 31 in the opening of the FIA American Congress 2026, which will be hosted by the Automobile Club Argentino (ACA) and will bring together representatives of continental motorsport and international authorities in Buenos Aires.
Among the main attendees will be Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, the body responsible for regulating the main international motorsport competitions. The presence of its highest authority will open a direct opportunity to advance the Argentine project.

National officials such as Karina Milei, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, and the Secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Sports, Daniel Scioli, will also participate. In recent months, the Government has already made various efforts to re-establish the country among the potential destinations for the top category.
One of the central points of the project is the renovation of the Oscar and Juan Gálvez Autodrome, where the Argentine Grand Prix was last held in 1998. The works aim to adapt the circuit to the international requirements necessary to host top-level competitions again.
The remodeling includes a 4.87-kilometer Formula 1 track with 15 curves, as well as new interventions on the track and the infrastructure of the venue. The intention is for the autodrome to meet the technical standards required by the FIA.

The return of Franco Colapinto to the top category has also rekindled interest in recovering a local date. Argentina has a long tradition in Formula 1, marked by figures such as Juan Manuel Fangio, José Froilán González, and Carlos Reutemann.
The last race held in Buenos Aires was on April 12, 1998, and was won by Michael Schumacher with Ferrari. Now, 28 years later, the Government will seek to take advantage of the FIA Congress and the works at Gálvez to attempt to bring Formula 1 back to Argentine soil.
