Techint once again lost a key tender and was left out of the strategic gas pipeline to export LNG.

The Techint group was once again left out of a strategic project for Argentine energy development, after losing the tender for the construction of the gas pipeline that will connect Vaca Muerta to the Rio Negro coast.

The work was awarded to the Victor Contreras - SICIM joint venture, which presented the best technical and economic offer, leaving behind the proposal of Techint and other competitors.

Another setback after losing the pipe tender It's not the group

's first recent loss.

At the beginning of the year, Tenaris —the main local pipe producer—had already lost its supply of pipes to the Indian firm Welspun.

This episode generated strong criticism from President Javier Milei, who pointed directly at Paolo Rocca, whom he described as “Don Chatarrín with the expensive tubes”.

Real competition and end of privileges

The award reveals a paradigm shift: works are no longer assigned for political or historical weight, but for

competitiveness.

The winning company offered:

  • Better price

  • Greater financial flexibility

  • No need for advances

  • Better compliance guarantees

Key factors in a large scale project.

A strategic megaproject for Argentina

The gas pipeline is part of the plan led by Southern Energy, comprising: Pan American Energy

  • YPF

  • Pampa Energía

  • Harbor Energy

  • Golar LNG

    The

objective is to position Argentina as a global exporter of LNG

    Millionaire investments and international projection

The project includes more than USD 15 billion in

    long-term investment.

    It includes:

    • A 471 km gas pipeline

    • Compressor plants

    • Liquefaction vessels

In addition, a contract has already been signed with Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE

) to export gas to Germany.

    Milei sets the course

Techint's consecutive defeats reflect the Government's new approach: opening up the market, encouraging competition and ending closed

    structures.

Far from holding back development, the bidding process was carried out with criteria of transparency and efficiency, prioritizing the benefit of the project.

    A structural change under way

The message is clear: in the Argentina that Milei promotes, the historical weight is no longer

    enough.

Now, the one who offers the best conditions wins.

And in this new scenario, Techint was once again left behind.
