Although there are still several years left until the 2030 World Cup, Morocco already seems to have defined its major bet to host the most important match of the tournament. Amid the planning for a World Cup that will have Spain, Portugal, and the African country as the main venues, Fouzi Lekjaa jumped ahead of any official confirmation and pointed to the new Grand Hassan II Stadium as the venue for the final.

The president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) made the statement during an electoral event of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, held in Buznika, near Rabat. In front of those present, he stated: “The province of Benslimane is the one that will have the honor of hosting the final of the 2030 World Cup.” The statement was met with applause and a standing ovation. Furthermore, he was even more categorical when referring to the future of the decisive match, asserting that Benslimane will host the final “whether people like it or not”.

The venue chosen by Morocco is still under construction, but the project explains much of the leader's confidence. The Grand Hassan II Stadium is projected to have a capacity of 115,000 spectators, making it one of the largest football stadiums in the world. The inauguration is scheduled for late 2027.

The design of the venue takes inspiration from the traditional moussem tent, a popular Moroccan celebration, and aims to become one of the main symbols of the country. Its size and the expected timeline for completing the works have turned it into Morocco's major card to compete for the decisive match.

Nonetheless, the FIFA has not yet officially determined where the final will be played. The main contenders are the Hassan II and the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, while the Spotify Camp Nou is also among the alternatives that could be considered. Once the construction is completed, the highest governing body of international football will need to conduct the necessary inspections before making a decision.

The 2030 World Cup will have Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as the main organizers, while Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay will host the opening matches of their respective teams as part of the celebrations for the 100 years of the first World Cup.

Beyond the choice of stadium, Lekjaa also made a particular statement about the rival he would like Morocco to face in that match. The leader expressed his desire to compete against France and, referring to the 2-0 defeat suffered against the French team in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, he declared: “So we can take our revenge”.

Thus, while FIFA still keeps the race for the final open, Morocco has already publicly presented its candidate and intends for the Hassan II to be the venue for the last match of the World Cup in four years.
