National senators will start earning $13,115,760 gross from January 2027 as a result of a new automatic update of their salaries, from La Libertad Avanza they announced that their legislators will again reject the economic benefit derived from the increase.
The increase does not arise from a decision by the national government, but from the mechanism approved by the Senate itself in April 2024, which directly linked the legislators' income to the value of the modules used to calculate the salaries of Congress workers.
The senators of La Libertad Avanza rejected the increase in allowances
The new increase derives from the agreement reached between the administrative authorities of Parliament and the unions ATE, UPCN, and the Legislative Personnel Association (APL), which includes an accumulated improvement of 6.98%.
The update will be distributed in four installments: 1.9% in September, 1.8% in October, 1.6% in November, and 1.5% in December. With the application of the last installment, the value of each module will reach $3,278.94.
Senators currently receive the equivalent of 4,000 modules, distributed among 2,500 corresponding to the base salary, 1,000 for representation expenses, and 500 additional for uprooting. Thus, the gross remuneration will reach $13,115,760 when the salary corresponding to December is paid in January.
The system that allows these updates was approved by the senators themselves during 2024. At that time, a 13th salary was also introduced to compensate for the bonus, a decision that raised questions due to the high income level of the upper house.
Since then, La Libertad Avanza has adopted a differentiated position regarding the successive increases. In March of this year, when an update raised salaries to around $11.5 million, the libertarian bloc publicly announced that it rejected the increase, considering that political leadership should act responsibly in light of the economic effort made by Argentines.
Government legislators maintained that their income is already well above the average salary and argued that it was inappropriate to appropriate automatic increases while the national government maintains a policy of austerity and order of public accounts.

In contrast, in previous updates Kirchnerism decided to maintain the increases, while various senators from PRO, UCR, and provincial blocs also resolved to reject them.
To prevent updates from being mandatory, a resolution was signed in 2025 that enabled each legislator to communicate in writing whether they wish to adjust their salary totally or partially.
