The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, agreed with Aerolíneas Argentinas to incorporate 10 weekly direct flights between the province and Buenos Aires for the summer season 2026-2027. The measure aims to strengthen air connectivity, support the growth of tourism, and respond to the increased demand for transportation linked to the development of mining activities.

The agreement establishes a progressive increase in frequencies starting in November and guarantees the new schedule during December, January, February, and March. This way, Catamarca will have greater seat availability to facilitate the transport of tourists, workers, entrepreneurs, and residents.

The agreement represents a step forward for the connectivity of Catamarca and seeks to support two strategic sectors of its economy: tourism and mining. Both activities generate a growing movement of passengers and require better transportation alternatives to sustain their expansion.

Catamarca will have 10 weekly direct flights to Buenos Aires

The new schedule will begin to be implemented in November, when services will increase from seven to nine weekly frequencies. Starting in December, the goal of ten flights per week will be reached.

The agreed distribution includes seven flights in the morning and three evening services, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

All services will have a direct connection with the Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires, one of the main passenger distribution centers in the country.

The agreement was signed by Jalil with the support of authorities from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sports and representatives from business chambers linked to the tourism sector.

The negotiation was coordinated by the provincial Ministry through the Tourism Management Secretariat, which worked to expand the offer of air services in anticipation of the months of highest movement.

Tourism and mining at the center of the connectivity strategy

The expansion of frequencies will improve conditions for the development of tourism activities during the summer. Greater flight availability facilitates the organization of trips, the marketing of packages, and the planning of services by hotels, agencies, and local operators.

Catamarca seeks to take advantage of the summer season to strengthen its positioning as a tourist destination and attract visitors from different parts of the country.

However, the impact of the measure is not limited to tourism. The growth of mining projects also generates a sustained demand for air connectivity, due to the movement of professionals, workers, entrepreneurs, and representatives of companies developing investments in Catamarca territory.

In this context, having more direct flights to Buenos Aires represents a tool to facilitate business operations and improve mobility related to productive investments.

The Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Daiana Roldán, highlighted the importance of the agreement and the provincial government's commitment to maintaining connectivity.

"Tourism is a state policy in Catamarca, and once again the governor demonstrates this with the decision to support this agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas, while we continue to manage other alternatives for air connectivity for the province," she stated.

The official also emphasized that efforts will continue to expand the available transportation options for passengers.

The private sector supported the agreement with Aerolíneas Argentinas

For her part, the Secretary of Tourism Management, Evangelina Quarín, noted that the increase in frequencies will allow for better planning of activities during the summer months.

Predictability in air scheduling represents an important factor for tourism providers, who will be able to organize their services and commercial strategies with greater anticipation.

The agreement also had the support of representatives from the private sector. The president of the Catamarca Tourism Chamber, Marcelo Coll, valued the recovery of services and its impact on the provincial economy.

"With this agreement, resuming some flights will be crucial for the connectivity impact to Catamarca at least until March. We will total 10 weekly frequencies, which is very good news for the tourism sector and, in reality, for the entire province," he expressed.

The expansion of services can also benefit restaurants, hotels, tour operators, and other sectors that depend on the movement of visitors.

The agreement will have an initial validity of five months

The agreement includes an initial validity of five months, during which the reinforced schedule will be maintained for the summer season 2026-2027.

Once this period is completed, the parties will evaluate and renegotiate the continuity of the services, based on demand and the connectivity needs of the province.

With this decision, Raúl Jalil seeks to consolidate greater air connection between Catamarca and Buenos Aires, supporting tourism movement and the transportation needs generated by mining development.

The province will have ten direct weekly flights during the months of highest summer activity, while the government continues to work to expand connectivity alternatives and create better conditions for economic growth.
