The future of Emiliano Martínez at Aston Villa is once again open. While the Argentine goalkeeper is close to returning to action, Juventus has reactivated talks regarding his transfer.

Although initially they had stepped back from negotiations due to economic differences, the intention of the Vecchia Signora to have the Mar del Plata native has gained momentum due to the insistence of Luciano Spalletti, the team's coach, who considers the Argentine an important asset due to his experience and leadership.

The negotiations with the English club, however, still present a discrepancy regarding finances. The British entity is asking for around 10 million euros to part ways with the goalkeeper, while Turin is preparing an offer of 7 million plus another 3 million in variables.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa has taken an important step to find competition or directly an eventual replacement. The chosen one is Zion Suzuki, a 23-year-old Japanese goalkeeper who belongs to Parma and has had a standout performance with his national team.

Recently, Suzuki was very close to being transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, but that operation fell through due to economic differences related to the demands of intermediaries. In this context, the Villains would have accepted those conditions and are well-positioned to sign him for five seasons, with an investment close to 30 million euros.

The possible arrival of the Japanese could be decisive for Martínez's future. Although coach Unai Emery had made his position clear after the defeat against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup, when he stated: "We do not want him to leave. He is the best goalkeeper in the world and I want to have the best goalkeeper in the world", the scenario seems to have changed with the progress regarding Suzuki.

Martínez recently returned to England after spending a few days in Mar del Plata with his family and has not yet returned to add minutes with Aston Villa. With Juventus back in the picture and Suzuki getting closer to Birmingham, his future seems to be entering a decisive stage.

The numbers of Dibu Martínez at Aston Villa

Since his arrival at the Villains in mid-2020, the Argentine goalkeeper has played 22,655 minutes, spread over 256 matches, of which in 80 he remained unbeaten and in the rest conceded 305 goals; he also received a yellow card on 26 occasions and a straight red on one. In terms of titles, he won one: Europa League 2025/26.
