The president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, were received this Friday with loud boos, insults, and shouts of "resignation" during their official visit to Ceuta, amid the serious migration crisis facing the autonomous city following the massive arrival of illegal immigrants from Morocco.

The tension arises as the border emergency continues to worsen. According to the latest report, at least 41 illegal immigrants have died during attempts to enter Spanish territory as part of this new wave of migration, a figure that reflects the magnitude of the crisis the country is facing.

Ceuta erupted against Sánchez

Sánchez landed shortly after 11 a.m. and initially went to the Tarajal border to supervise the operation deployed by security forces.

He later arrived at the Palace of the Assembly, where he held a meeting with the Ceuta president, Juan Jesús Vivas, Minister Grande-Marlaska, and officials from the State Security Forces and Corps.

However, at the doors of the building, he was met by a large group of protesters who greeted him with honks, insults, and slogans such as "Sánchez, resignation", "out", "traitor", and "scoundrel", reflecting the growing discontent with the Government's management of illegal immigration.

Throughout the visit, it was necessary to deploy a significant police operation to keep the protesters separated from the official delegation.

The migration crisis exacerbates rejection of the Government

Protests were repeated when Sánchez left the Palace of the Assembly, after spending nearly three hours in the city.

Hundreds of people remained behind the security fence while continuing to shout "resignation" and insults directed at the president. Among the protesters were leaders from Vox for Ceuta, who joined the demands against the socialist Executive.

During a brief institutional statement, Sánchez described the massive arrival of illegal immigrants as a "violation of Spain's territorial integrity" and blamed the mafias involved in human trafficking for the situation.

Additionally, he announced that Grande-Marlaska will remain in Ceuta for several days to coordinate the security operation and monitor the evolution of the crisis.

Illegal immigration puts the Government under pressure again

The migratory pressure on Ceuta surged again in recent days with the entry of thousands of illegal immigrants from Morocco, forcing the reinforcement of security and humanitarian assistance measures.

The tragedy has already left 41 illegal immigrants dead during crossing attempts, while criticism of Sánchez's Government grows over the lack of border control and the management of a crisis that once again highlights Spain's difficulties in containing illegal immigration at its southern borders.

This episode also deepens the political wear of the Spanish president, who had to face strong public rejection during a visit marked from start to finish by a climate of tension, calls for resignation, and social discontent in the face of a migration crisis that continues to worsen.
