Lionel Scaloni is very close to finalizing his renewal as coach of the Argentine National Team. The current contract expires at the end of December and, after having questioned his continuity following the defeat in the final of the last World Cup against Spain by 1-0, negotiations with the Argentine Football Association are moving towards an agreement.
The coach born in Pujato had left an open stance after the World Cup. “I have an idea of what I want to do, I will fulfill the contract and then I will see,” he had stated at that time. That phrase generated uncertainty, but the AFA is optimistic that everything will be resolved favorably.
Although there is still no official confirmation, the new contract would be for two years, valid until the 2028 Copa América. It would also include an option for an extension for another two years, which would allow him to coach the 2030 World Cup as well. That tournament would be the third under his command since he took over in 2018, after the World Cup in Russia.
While waiting for the official announcement, Scaloni will continue to lead the team in the next three friendlies. La Albiceleste will face Bolivia on the 30th, Burkina Faso on the 3rd, and Benin on the 6th, a match that will mark Lionel Messi's farewell from the national team.
