Taiwan deployed aircraft and ships following a new Chinese military patrol near the island.

The Taiwanese government has once again deployed fighter jets and military ships after detecting a new aerial and naval patrol by the Chinese Army around the island, amid a new increase in tension between Beijing and Taipei. According to the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense, this is the second major Chinese military operation recorded in less than a week.

Taiwanese authorities noted that the patrol included fighter jets, military drones, and vessels from the Chinese Navy operating near the median line of the Taiwan Strait, an unofficial boundary that has functioned as a separation zone between both sides for decades.

In response to the Chinese operation, Taiwan activated air and maritime surveillance systems and ordered the immediate deployment of fighter jets and military ships to monitor the movements of the People's Liberation Army. The Ministry of Defense stated that “the armed forces maintain full control of the situation.”

The new military demonstration comes just days after China conducted another major combat patrol around the island and coincided with an increase in statements from Beijing against the Taiwanese government. The Chinese authorities consider Taiwan part of their territory and do not rule out the use of force to achieve eventual reunification.

In recent months, the Chinese government has significantly intensified military pressure on the democratic island through naval exercises, strategic bomber flights, and drone operations around Taiwanese territory. International analysts believe that these maneuvers aim to wear down Taiwan both militarily and psychologically, as well as to send signals to the United States and its allies in the region.

The situation raises particular concern as Taiwan has become one of the main focal points of global geopolitical tension. The United States maintains political and military support for the island and continues to authorize arms sales and strategic cooperation with Taipei, something that Beijing considers a direct provocation.

The Taiwanese government also accuses China of attempting to alter the regional balance through constant military pressure. President Lai Ching-te recently stated that Taiwanese democracy “will not yield to threats or intimidation.”

Meanwhile, various Western countries continue to watch with concern the growing militarization of the Taiwan Strait, one of the most important trade routes in the world and key to the global semiconductor industry.
