In a clear demonstration of Latin American solidarity, Bolivia reaffirmed its historical support for Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas. This positioning, expressed before the United Nations General Assembly, is the result of the effective diplomatic management of President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, who rebuilt trust and cooperation with Bolivia based on mutual respect and shared interests.

“It is an honor for the Plurinational State of Bolivia within the framework of this session to continue the traditional practice of solidarity and support for the issue of the Falkland Islands,” asserted Bolivia's Foreign Minister Fernando Aramayo before the Group of 77 and China, clearly supporting Argentina's sovereignty in the region.

He also added: “Ministers recalled that December 16, 2025, marks the 60th anniversary of the approval of resolution 2065 of the United Nations General Assembly and reaffirmed the need for the governments of the Republic of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations in accordance with the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter and the relevant resolutions adopted by the General Assembly, in order to find a peaceful solution to the controversy over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas as soon as possible.”

Additionally, the Bolivian representative emphasized "and appreciated Argentina's good disposition and willingness to hold negotiations for this purpose,” also mentioning resolution 37/9 which entrusted the Secretary-General with a mission of good offices.

Finally, Aramayo reaffirmed “the principle of territorial integrity enshrined in resolution 1514 of the General Assembly,” highlighting “the right of the Republic of Argentina to undertake legal actions with full respect for international law and the relevant resolutions against unauthorized exploration and exploitation activities of hydrocarbons in the area.”

This firm support is framed within a new stage of bilateral relations driven by Javier Milei's government. The pragmatic diplomacy of Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno has allowed overcoming past tensions and strengthening cooperation.

A key moment was the support provided by Argentina to Bolivia during the attempted coup d'état led by former president Evo Morales. In the midst of that serious institutional crisis, the Argentine government offered political and humanitarian support to the Bolivian people and constitutional authorities, helping to preserve democracy and stability in the region. This gesture generated gratitude and opened a new page of mutual trust.

The position expressed by Bolivia at the UN reinforces regional consensus around the Falklands Question and the principle of territorial integrity. The support from the G77 and China, read by Aramayo, underscores the isolation of the United Kingdom and the validity of the General Assembly resolutions calling for a negotiated solution.

Thanks to the management of Milei and Quirno, Bolivia not only maintained its traditional support but expressed it clearly and emphatically in a high-level multilateral forum. Therefore, the Bolivian reaffirmation constitutes a significant diplomatic victory. It demonstrates that a foreign policy centered on national interests and fraternity with brotherly peoples produces concrete results.
