Tesla, the giant of electric cars, has officially begun its entry into Argentina, one of the few markets in the region where its vehicles are still not circulating. The arrival is progressing rapidly and promises to energize a sector that is expanding.
Although the major debut in car sales is expected only in 2027, the company is already laying the groundwork for its business in the country through its supercharger network, in an automotive market that is beginning to incorporate it into its projections.

April 1 was a key day: the constitution of Tesla Argentina S.R.L. was published in the Official Bulletin. The company appointed a country manager for Argentina and Uruguay, will open a local office, and will begin its organic entry with the electric charger business.
The expansion plan towards the south of the continent had been on the table for more than seven years, and the new regulatory and economic scenario in the country finally allowed it to be reactivated.

Eight years later, Tesla found a key partner for its entry: YPF. The president of the Argentine oil company, Horacio Marín, traveled to Tesla's Gigafactory in Texas, where he signed a letter of intent to explore the deployment of the fast charging network in the country.
YPF has 1,600 service stations, the largest network in the national territory. By the end of the year, chargers will be installed at 17 stations, starting with Nordelta in the AMBA, aiming to cover key corridors such as Santa Fe-Rosario, Buenos Aires-Mendoza, and even Patagonia.

The leadership of this entry is in the hands of Joaquín Lizarralde, the newly appointed country manager of Tesla for Argentina and Uruguay. The executive, with experience in the automotive sector after having been the commercial director of Kavak and RDA Mobility, will lead negotiations with various players in the local market.
Among the opportunities being evaluated is also the installation of a data center, under the tax benefit regime promoted by the government known as Super RIGI, where YPF could play a strategic role in energy supply.

Tesla's entry comes at a time of strong expansion for the electric segment. In the first half of the year, 3,860 electric vehicles were sold in the country, a growth of 880% compared to the same period last year.

According to Ernesto Cavicchioli, president of the Chamber of Importers of Auto Parts (CIDOA) and CEO of Hyundai Motor Argentina, the arrival of the brand is good news for the sector: “We welcome Tesla's arrival because from the importers' chamber we always work to have a more open market, with more competition, with more brands. We believe that competition improves the system”, he stated to Bloomberg Línea.

As Cavicchioli explained, Tesla models will not be able to enter under the quota of electrified vehicles with reduced tariffs, due to their FOB value, so they will be marketed as mid-high range vehicles.
