Lionel Messi continues to be the standout figure of Inter Miami and one of the most influential players in MLS. However, the American club has already begun planning for the future of the Rosario native when the time comes to end his professional career.

The club's operations president, Xavier Asensi, revealed that the management's intention is for the world champion to remain linked to the sports and business project once he retires from football.

The Inter Miami project for Messi

Asensi explained that the club's goal is to incorporate Messi as part of the ownership when league rules allow it.

Currently, MLS regulations prevent an active player from owning shares in a franchise. However, that situation would change once the Argentine announces his retirement.

"The idea is that when he stops playing, he has an option to invest his time in Inter. Legally, he cannot own the club now, but when he is no longer an active player, he will be part of the ownership of Inter," the executive stated.

A bond that transcends the field

From the institution, they consider it essential to plan for the period after Messi's career, although they make it clear that it will be the player himself who decides when to put an end to his journey.

"There will come a time when Messi no longer plays. It hurts me, but it's obvious. The club will continue, and it would be reckless not to think about post-Leo. As long as he plays, he will do so for as long as he wants. He has earned that right," Asensi added.
