At 36 years old, Wojciech Szczesny is going through an unexpected moment in his career. After announcing his retirement from professional football in 2024 to settle in Marbella, the call from Barcelona completely changed his plans. What initially seemed like a temporary addition turned into a continuation with the Catalan team, where he will remain at least until mid-2027.
In an interview with The Athletic, the goalkeeper surprised by openly referring to his relationship with tobacco, a topic that had already generated a stir during the celebrations of the LaLiga title.
During the celebration of the Spanish championship, Szczesny was photographed using a vape and sharing cigarettes with other members of the squad, images that quickly went viral and provoked criticism on social media and sports media.
"Maybe it's not the most professional thing in the world, but that's how I am. People know I have an addiction that I can't shake off. I think even that feels authentic to them, because many players have certain addictions (nicotine, alcohol, gambling...)," he stated.
