The CAN warns that recent tensions affect regional integration and trade between the two countries

The Andean Community (CAN) urged the governments of Ecuador and Colombia to resume direct dialogue, with the objective of preserving more than five decades of regional integration and avoiding major impacts on the relationship bilateral.
The Secretary General of the CAN, Gonzalo Gutiérrez Reinel, expressed concern about the recent decisions taken by both countries, pointing out that they generate negative impacts on trade, cooperation and the well-being of populations borderlines.

The organization recalled that the Andean integration process has allowed key advances such as free movement, cooperation against organized crime and the growth of intraregional trade, benefiting thousands of companies and MSMEs in
both countries.
The CAN also called for talks to resume as soon as possible with high-level delegations and in an environment of moderation, to avoid further deterioration of the relationship and preserve regional stability.
