With great political finesse, the president delivered a speech in which he ridiculed the usual operators

The president Donald Trump hosted the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Friday night, where he delivered a speech lasting over an hour in which he praised some journalists, took jabs at others, and even joked about the possibility of seeking a third term.

"As I said three months ago, the show must go on", the president declared as he began his speech, celebrating the decision to reschedule the dinner. Before starting his speech, Trump noted that a "mass assassination attempt" could have occurred that night in April when a Democratic activist opened fire at the hotel where the event was being held.

Due to this leftist attack, the dinner had to be rescheduled and held in a smaller venue. Security was tighter and included armed agents and security guards. The Secret Service agent who was at a checkpoint in April and was hit by a bullet in his protective vest while protecting Trump was also honored.

The president attended alongside the White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt.

Trump's unmissable words

Trump spoke for just over an hour and dedicated some words to Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, and Barack Hussein Obama. He also mentioned failed hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel; far-left Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar; California Governor Gavin Newsom; and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie among others.

Additionally, the Republican mogul referenced the journalism awards given earlier in the evening, most of which were awarded to journalists who invent "fake news" about him and his administration. "Do I have a say in those awards?" he asked with a smirk.

At one point in his speech, Trump indulged in the classic tease about a third presidential term that always irritates the progressive press. "Just like my presidency, the second time is always better," the president joked. "And the third time will be even better," although he said he was only "joking." He then put on a red cap that read "Trump 2028" and dropped the “scoop” that he would run again.

"This is really the largest group of people with ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ gathered in one place", the president continued joking, although he concluded his speech with an attempt to build bridges. "I have a lot of respect for your profession," he told the invited journalists. And he closed with a very apt phrase: "When I'm not here, all of you are going to go broke".
