The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for the first time since the start of the war in Iran. The central purpose of the hearing was to present the annual budget request for the State Department.
However, attention quickly shifted to the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, which has further strained in recent days due to the attacks perpetrated by Iran and Hezbollah. In this context, the Democrats attempted to humiliate Rubio, but failed spectacularly.
During the session, Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen questioned Rubio about whether the Donald Trump administration had found "new evidence" justifying Cuba's reinstatement on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
"Cuba has sponsored terrorism and has supported various groups. For example, practically any violent radical left terrorist organization in the Western Hemisphere has depended, at some point, on Cuban support. The ELN, the FARC, and their dissidents have been involved there", Rubio explained.
"We also know, for example, that Cuba continues to host a fairly substantial network of intelligence bases that operate for the benefit of the Chinese and the Russians. If you analyze the region and look at all these leftist Marxist terrorist organizations, you find them in all of them...", added the head of U.S. diplomacy before being interrupted by Van Hollen.
