President Donald Trump mocked the communist mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, on Monday for requiring people to present their documents and identify themselves before buying subsidized food at the state-run supermarkets he is going to inaugurate.
The Muslim politician revealed that people will need to identify themselves with a valid document to enter his state-run supermarkets. "This is a program for New Yorkers to put food on the table, not for people to make a quick economic difference by reselling," he said.
Journalists asked Trump about his reaction to this measure, and the president highlighted the hypocrisy of the communist. "I wish they would ask for identification to enter the voting booth. As you know, they don't want to enter the voting booth with any document,” the president emphasized. "We want voter identification and we want proof of citizenship."
Trump also recalled that Mamdani required New Yorkers to present two forms of identification to get paid for shoveling snow during winter storms. “Well, he also defended having to present two different documents to shovel snow in winter, right?” the president added.
