The president Donald Trump announced a few minutes ago that the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, one of the best officials in his administration, will leave her position at the end of August to spend more time with her family.
Leavitt, 28, has just become a mother for the second time and had resumed her duties last month after being on maternity leave. Trump praised her and described her as "one of my most trusted collaborators."
"Karoline will now be one of my main external advisors and a voice of great influence within the Republican Party, as we work to defy history and win decisively in the midterm elections", the head of state wrote on his social media.
"Karoline has been a true leader in the White House and has done a phenomenal job fighting for justice and freedom since 2018, including our historic 2024 reelection campaign," he added. "Karoline has been one of the best press secretaries in the history of the position", the president concluded.
Leavitt accompanied Trump throughout the 2024 presidential campaign. During that campaign, she gave birth to her first child, Niko. Three days later, the then-Republican candidate suffered an assassination attempt when he was shot during an event in Pennsylvania by a left-wing lunatic militant.
"I have spoken with great pride about the numerous historic achievements of this administration, and I have enjoyed holding liberal media accountable and ensuring that the American people hear the truth about President Trump's successes", the official stated in a press release.
"The truth is that since I returned to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom that my two young children deserve while dedicating the time, energy, and constant attention that the role of White House press secretary demands, and that is why I ultimately made the bittersweet decision to step aside", she continued.
As the spokesperson for the presidency, Leavitt broke the monopoly of the mainstream media and gave access to the White House to independent journalists who told the truth to the public. For Trump, she leaves the position a "star" and the Republican leader asserts: "I don't believe anyone has ever had a better press secretary than Karoline".
