President Donald Trump strongly criticized the European Union for fining American tech companies millions of dollars this Friday, claiming that the geopolitical entity is robbing the American taxpayer.

The European Community fined Apple $15 billion, Meta $3 billion, and Amazon $2.5 billion. But the trigger for the dispute has been a fine against Google for another $1 billion. In response, Trump announced a trade investigation under Section 301 of the trade law.

Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 empowers the U.S. government to address unfair foreign practices that affect the country's trade. It is used to respond to acts, policies, or unreasonable, unjustifiable, or discriminatory practices that burden or restrict U.S. trade.

Trump's full statement

"The EU is back at it and, as usual, targeting BIG American Companies directly! After fining Apple, without any reason, $15 billion, Meta $3 billion, Amazon $2.5 billion, and many others, we have just been informed that Google, a truly advanced and incredible group, has been fined another $1 billion, without any explanation," the president stated.

"This brings Google's total to over $18 billion! This illegal and highly discriminatory practice started at such high levels during the first year of the 'Sleepy' Joe Biden administration, but it will not continue during the Trump administration," he added.

"The United States of America is not a 'PIGGY BANK' for Europe, nor will we allow it to be! Please let this TRUTH serve to make it clear that we will immediately initiate a Section 301 Investigation into the practice of 'STEALING' from American companies and, in turn, from the American taxpayer," the Republican leader asserted.

"The European Union will pay a very high price for this illegal and extremely immoral conduct, of which I have consistently warned them. The sanctions will be completely reversed, and we anticipate that a substantial TARIFF will be applied as soon as possible. Stay tuned!" Trump warned.
