On Friday, August 21, at the Legislative Palace, former presidents Julio Sanguinetti and Luis Lacalle Herrera discussed the victims of subversive terrorism in Uruguay.

As part of the "International Day of Commemoration and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism," the Center for Human Rights Studies of Uruguay organized a meeting and dialogue between the former presidents, where Sergio Molagero, who was kidnapped and tortured by the terrorist group OPR-33, also participated.

Before a large audience, the harmful effects of the Marxist sedition that plagued Uruguay from the early 1960s until at least 1972 were discussed.

Particularly highlighted were the crimes of the terrorist group Tupamaros, many of which remain unpunished and whose perpetrators were never apprehended.

Political prisoners

Particularly noted were the conditions faced by political prisoners incarcerated in the Domingo Arena prison, and in other facilities, who are military police and some civilians accused by former insurgents of alleged crimes committed over half a century ago.

Even though Uruguay has the Expiry Law voted in 1986, which has been subjected to popular will twice to be repealed, and both times the Electoral Body voted to maintain it, hatred and revenge continue to advance.

The totalitarian left continues to promote trials against the old Defenders of the Homeland.

With a Human Rights Prosecutor's Office led by Prosecutors who, instead of applying the law, apply revenge, and with false witnesses, dozens of former police and military personnel have been criminally convicted in parody trials.

Meanwhile, dozens of former Tupamaro terrorists who committed violent crimes have never been arrested, and they, along with their descendants, receive pensions thanks to a law and a regulatory decree voted at the time by the Broad Front.
