The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, announced the return of the Argentine Army to the province after almost three decades without a military presence.

The measure is part of a broader process of reconstruction of the Armed Forces promoted by the government of Javier Milei, with a focus on recovering strategic capacities and strengthening national sovereignty.

The return of the Army: a historic change

The announcement was made during the Veterans and Memorial Day event in the Falkland Islands

.

Jalil confirmed that, after meeting with Defense Minister Carlos Presti, the return of force could take place in early 2027.

Catamarca had been left without an Army presence since 1997, when the 17th Infantry Regiment was disbanded.

A key project to recover military capabilities

The return of the Army involves the construction of a new military unit in the south of the provincial capital.

The property will have modern infrastructure, including:

  • Accommodation for more than 250 soldiers

  • A military neighborhood with 100 houses

  • Operational facilities such as hangars, powder magazines and a vehicle park

The works would progress

to be completed in 2027.

A policy aligned with national strengthening The

decision is part of a broader strategy of the national Government

.

The Milei administration has been promoting the strengthening of the Armed Forces as part of a defense agenda that prioritizes security and sovereignty.

The return of the Army to Catamarca joins other initiatives aimed at recovering capacities that were weakened for years.

Economic Impact and Local Development

The installation of the military unit will also have positive effects on the regional economy.

The arrival of soldiers and their families will generate greater commercial activity, demand for services and dynamism in the local market.

In addition, a large part of the staff is expected to come from the region, strengthening territorial roots.

Malvinas as an axis of memory and commitment

The announcement was made in a symbolic context

.

During the event, Jalil highlighted the importance of the Malvinas in the national identity and paid tribute to former combatants.

It also confirmed the delivery of life pensions to veterans of the province.

A historic debt that is beginning to be paid off Catamarca

was the only province in the country without the presence of the

Army.

The return of force corrects a structural anomaly in the national defense system.

It also responds to the need to strengthen the State's presence in strategic areas of the territory.

Modern infrastructure for a new phase

The project envisages an integral complex with multiple buildings and full operational capacity

.

The facilities are designed to ensure the permanent operation of the military unit.

This will allow Catamarca to be effectively integrated into the national defense scheme.

The role of the Armed Forces in today's Argentina

Military strengthening is once again at the center of the national agenda.

The Government seeks to recover the strategic role of the Armed Forces, both in defense and in logistical and territorial support.

A firm step towards national reconstruction The

return of the Army to Catamarca marks a turning point

.

It not only represents a logistical decision, but also a political one: to re-prioritize defense, sovereignty and the presence of the State.
