Hours after finishing a great weekend at the Miami Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto received good news that further improves his final result. After a post-race analysis, the FIA sports commissioners penalized Charles Leclerc with 20 seconds, causing a change in the final standings.

In that sense, one of the beneficiaries was the Argentine driver, who went from eighth to seventh place, thus becoming his best record in Formula 1 to date.

The sanction was caused by a maneuver in the last few laps, when Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari and, in his attempt to hold his position, he repeatedly exceeded the track limits. After reviewing the action, the authorities concluded that “leaving the track several times and driving in unsafe conditions” gave him a sporting advantage, and that mechanical problems did not

justify his actions.

The punishment, equivalent to a drive-through applied after the end of the race, caused Leclerc to fall from sixth to eighth place. In this way, both Hamilton, who had originally finished seventh, and Colapinto advanced one position. With this reclassification, the Argentine driver broke his performance ceiling in the Maxima.

Previously, his best position had been his eighth place in Baku during the 2024 season, when he was still racing for Williams.

In addition to the sporting impact, the change also had consequences for the championship. Colapinto went from scoring four to six points in the race and raised his personal score during the season, consolidating his growth

within Alpine.
