The elected president of Costa Rica, Laura Fernández Delgado, has already made it clear what the tone of her government will be: order, decision and political leadership from day one. A few weeks after taking office on May 8, the president announced that she will sign two key decrees aimed at reorganizing the Executive Branch and defining the legislative agenda, thus marking a beginning of management with a

strong reformist imprint.

The first axis of action will focus on ordering the internal structure of the State, with the objective of improving efficiency and avoiding overlaps within the public apparatus. The second aims to take control of the Congress's agenda during the special session, which will allow it to quickly promote projects considered to be priorities for the country

But beyond these concrete measures, Fernández's profile largely explains this approach. Political scientist, former Minister of Planning and the Presidency, and a key figure in the ruling party, she built her career within the State and managed to position herself as a leader with management capacity

and strategic vision.

His coming to power was not minor: he won the elections of 2026 in the first round with more than 48% of the votes, avoiding the ballot and consolidating significant political support. This result not only reflects electoral support, but also a social demand for concrete changes in the functioning of the State and in the political leadership of the country.

Fernández also represents the continuity of a project that seeks to reform traditional structures, reduce bureaucracy and strengthen the Executive Power to make it more dynamic and effective. In this sense, its first decrees are not isolated measures, but part of a broader strategy aimed at modernizing public management

In a regional context where many governments face institutional paralysis or lack of direction, the decision to move quickly with reforms from the start appears as a sign of

leadership.

Thus, with clear objectives and political support, Laura Fernández is preparing to assume with a concrete premise: to govern from day one, with order, direction and capacity for action.
