Following the recent victory of the Spanish National Team in the 2026 World Cup, the housing spokesperson for the far-left party Sumar, Alberto Ibáñez, directly attacked forward Ferrán Torres, responsible for the goal that secured victory for his country, accusing him of “speculating” with the real estate market in the Valencia Community through an investment fund.

The statements were made on Tuesday, July 21, during a press conference in which the leftist deputy began by congratulating the national team on their achievement.

However, in that same context, he criticized one of the players from the championship team, marking a contrast between sporting recognition and criticism.

Ibáñez made a comparative review between the current situation and that of the 2010 World Cup, when Spain was also crowned champion. In this context, he highlighted economic changes, particularly regarding income and access to housing.

He noted that the minimum wage increased from 633 to 1,184 euros, but stated that housing costs have risen considerably.

According to him, in 2010 the rent for a complete apartment in Valencia averaged around 500 euros, while currently that same amount is not even enough to cover a room in a shared apartment, whose average value is 550 euros.

It was at this point that the Sumar leader focused his criticism on Ferrán Torres. “It is necessary to take brave measures,” he stated, adding that one of them is the bill promoted by his political space “to prevent companies and vulture funds like Eleven Future Invest, a company of Ferrán Torres, which according to Forbes already owns twenty properties in Valencia, from buying houses to speculate.”

The deputy's statements directly targeted the business activities of the footballer, who, in addition to his sports career, has an investment structure in the real estate sector.

Torres has significant assets through Eleven Future Invest S.L., a company focused on the acquisition, renovation, rental, and sale of properties.

This company allows him to generate additional income alongside his salary as a professional player and the sponsorship contracts he maintains.

The criticisms from Sumar come in a context where access to housing has become one of the main axes of political debate in Spain.

However, instead of pointing out the real causes of the problem, such as high taxes, regulations, or the low supply of housing, they blamed Torres simply for investing in the real estate market.

Thus, while the national team celebrates a new title, the left harshly attacked one of the protagonists of the World Cup victory.
