More than two centuries after its creation, the “General San Martín” Grenadier Horse Regiment celebrated its 214th anniversary this Monday with an event led by President Javier Milei. The ceremony once again highlighted the historic role of the force founded to defend the independence of the Rio de la Plata and the president's enhancement of the Armed Forces.
The historic formation was created on March 16, 1812 by the then Lieutenant Colonel José de San Martín with the objective of organizing an elite military unit capable of confronting realistic forces in the process of emancipation. Over the years, the Regiment established itself as a central institution within the Argentinian military tradition

Since 1903, the Grenadiers have served as Presidential Escort, an institutional responsibility that they maintain to this day. His presence accompanies the official acts of the head of state and represents one of the most recognized symbols of the historical continuity between the exploits of independence and modern republican institutionality

Important authorities from the national Government and the Armed Forces also participated in the event.
Present were the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei; the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni; the Minister of Defense, Carlos Presti; the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Marcelo Dalle Nogare; the Chief of Staff of the Army, Oscar Santiago Zarich; and the head of the Grenadier Horse Regiment “General San Martín”, Cristian Castellanos.The historic presidential escort celebrated a new anniversary with Milei.
The ceremony brought together both the political leadership of the Government and the military leadership, in a tribute that highlighted the historical legacy of a unit that participated in some of the most important episodes of the struggle for
South American independence.
