Racing has already defined who will lead the team in the second half of the season. Juan Pablo Vojvoda has reached an agreement with the club's management and will become the replacement for Gustavo Costas, whose departure was decided by Diego Milito after a campaign that left the club far from its goals.
The Córdoba-born coach, who recently managed Santos in Brazil, will take over in the coming days once the formalities of his hiring are completed. The contract will be for at least one year and the intention isfor him to start working immediately on the planning of the preseason and the formation of the squad.
Duke will take over at Racing in the coming days
His arrival comes in a context of reconstruction. The Academy had a semester below expectations: they were eliminated in the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana and were knocked out of the Apertura Tournament in the quarterfinals.
This scenario led Milito to decide to end Costas' cycle, despite the fact that the coach had won the Copa Sudamericana 2024 and the Recopa Sudamericana 2025. "The squad needs a change of air", the president had argued when explaining the decision that generated strong repercussions among the fans.
Milito believed that Costas' cycle at Racing had run its course
For Vojvoda, it will be a return to Argentine football after several years. His last experience in the country was with Huracán in 2019. Since then, he has developed much of his career abroad, with notable stints at Fortaleza and, more recently, Santos.
Now he will face the challenge of restoring competitiveness to the Avellaneda team and guiding a squad that will seek to compete at the top levels again. With the preseason just around the corner, the Academy is betting on a coach with experience and a defined playing style to start a new chapter in Avellaneda.
Vojvoda's numbers as a coach
Since his debut as head coach with Defensa y Justicia in 2017, the native of General Baldiserra has been in charge of Talleres, Huracán, Unión La Calera, Fortaleza, and Santos. Throughout his nearly 10-year career, he has managed a total of 487 matches, achieving a record of 221 wins, 115 draws, and 151 losses, with a total of 760 goals scored and 548 conceded. In terms of titles, he has won 5, all with Fortaleza: 2 Copas do Nordeste (2021/22 and 2022/24) and 3 Campeonato Cearenses (2021, 2022, and 2023).
