The flag displayed in favor of the Falklands by the Argentine players generated a response in the English media

The British media outlet The Sun published a piece titled “ARGIE ARROGANCE.” In it, the outlet attacks the players of the Argentine National Team for celebrating with a flag that says “The Falklands are Argentine” after eliminating England from the World Cup.

Instead of informing, The Sun resorts to feigned outrage, language filled with contempt, and a victim narrative that ignores the real history. In this article, the British media calls it “arrogance” for Argentine players to claim what historically belongs to Argentina, such as the Falkland Islands.

On other occasions, it has been observed that this outlet has defended colonialism and illegitimate occupation; however, it is scandalized because Argentines do not forget the dispossession of 1982.

The Sun deliberately omits the context of the Falklands War, the historical Argentine claim supported by international resolutions, and the legitimate right to sovereignty. Instead, it focuses the article on British “outrage,” as if Argentine players should apologize for celebrating with national pride.

On the other hand, this newspaper is never scandalized when English players celebrate victories with colonial symbols or provoke rivals.
