The Ministry of Economy was evacuated due to a bomb threat

The Ministry of Economy of the Nation was evacuated on Monday afternoon after a bomb threat was reported, which triggered a security operation that included the intervention of the Argentine Federal Police and the bomb squad.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 PM, when alarms began to sound in all sectors of the building, initiating the evacuation protocol.

According to witnesses, employees quickly left their workstations using the stairs, as the elevators were blocked as part of the security measures.

The evacuation was carried out as a precaution after receiving two calls alerting about the possible presence of explosives. The decision was made by the Federal Police, responsible for the security of the building.

The designated meeting point for the staff was Plaza de Mayo, where workers remained while inspection tasks were carried out. Meanwhile, internal firefighters interrupted gas and water services, as established by the protocol for such situations.

During the operation, five vehicles from the Federal Police were deployed in the area, which forced the interruption of traffic on Hipólito Yrigoyen street, between Bolívar and Paseo Colón. Additionally, specialized dogs participated in the inspection of the building, while the bomb squad was called in.

At the time of the threat, the Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, was inside the building holding a meeting with the former president of Colombia, Iván Duque. Despite the operation, activities in the minister's private area continued normally and no immediate evacuation was ordered in that sector.

In fact, Caputo shared an image on his official X account alongside the former Colombian president, highlighting the content of the meeting. “We talked about the Argentine economic program, the experience of formalizing the economy during his term, and the upcoming elections in his country,” he wrote.
