After competing in the 2026 World Cup with the Argentine National Team, Exequiel Palacios could become one of the next Argentines to land in the Premier League. With the European transfer market entering its final stretch, Ipswich Town has renewed its interest in the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder with a new offer that has generated optimism in England and could expedite his departure from Germany.
The 27-year-old midfielder has a contract with Leverkusen until June 2030, but is currently at a point where he is considering a change of scenery after six seasons in the Bundesliga. Additionally, after the World Cup, he did not participate in the German team's preseason friendlies, a sign that his future may be away from the club.
On the other hand, the English team, recently promoted to the top tier of football in their country, has already been negotiating for several weeks for the player who emerged from River. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the new proposal presented by the British institution would be sufficient to bring the parties closer and definitively pave the way for the transfer.
If realized, he would join an important list of Argentine footballers who have arrived in the Premier League or changed clubs within the league after the World Cup. Among them are Gerónimo Rulli, signed by Manchester City; Valentín Barco and Claudio Echeverri, who returned to the English competition with Chelsea and City, respectively; and Marcos Senesi, who moved from Bournemouth to Tottenham.
The return to River
The possibility of Palacios returning to River, which at one point was back on the table, now seems to be taking a backseat. The midfielder had acknowledged that he still wishes to return to the club where he was trained, although he also made it clear that he does not intend to rush that decision.
Palacios does not rule out returning to River in the future
"It’s a dream to return to River someday. I have a great affection for River, I am a fan, I grew up in the club from a very young age. I take things step by step and in the future, we will see what happens", he expressed in an interview with Carnaval Stream.
